Trying to find something special for a child who has convinced you he's been good all year?
While we may be inclined to spend less on ourselves during this time of economic crisis, we may spend a little more on our kids.
So what's the hot item all the kids want?
Game systems seem to be what sells the best during the holidays, and the Nintendo Wii is the hardest to find.
If you've spent the last couple weeks searching endlessly for a Wii, the news isn't good. After making several calls to stores in the area, none were found.
"We have a truck each night, but there are no Wiis currently in the store, and I don't know if we will have any," said Ashley, a sales associate from Super Target at Bayfield Parkway in Concord. "We do have a few Wii Fit games, though."
The next call was to GameStop at Concord Commons Place, and it was also out of Wiis.
"We may get some in after Christmas," a sales associate said. They didn't have any "Wii Fit" games either, but recommended "Mario Kart" as a big seller.
Best Buy in Bayfield Parkway had the same story. The sales associate suggested X-Box 360 or Playstation 3 game systems as an alternative. They had a few of each.
All the stores seemed to believe they would receive more Wiis after Christmas, but a child doesn't want to open an empty box with a promise inside. So what to do now?
There are several other popular toys to choose from.
Anything from the Dark Knight seems to be a hot item, including action figures and computer games.
Elmo Live is the big seller this year for the tiny ones. The "Sesame Street" character can be brought to life with a tickle.
