Concord High's Black selected principal of year

CABARRUS — Carla Black, principal of Concord High School, has been selected as the 2009 Wachovia Principal of the Year for Cabarrus County.
She will move on to compete with other local award recipients from the Southwest Region of the state.
After that, one principal will be selected as the 2009 Wachovia Principal of the Year for North Carolina.
Black has been with Cabarrus County Schools since 1991 and with Concord High since 2005.
Prior to joining Concord High School, she was principal at R. Brown McAllister Elementary School and assistant principal at W.M. Irvin Elementary School. During the 1990s, she taught English at Central Cabarrus High School and language arts at Concord Middle School.
Regional award recipients will be selected by February 2009, and the state winner will be announced in April 2009 at a luncheon in Raleigh.
The regional winners receive a cash award for their school and a cash award for personal use. The state winner will receive $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for his or her personal use.
The program is sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, The Center for School Leadership Development Principals' Executive Program and Wachovia Corp.
The 2008 Wachovia Principal of the Year is Debra Morris, principal of A.L. Brown High School, Kannapolis City Schools.
