John Bugaiski has been named Teacher of the Year for Kannapolis City Schools.
Bugaiski, who teachers academically gifted children at Kannapolis Intermediate, was bestowed the honor tonight during banquet hosted by SunTrust Bank at The Club at Irish Creek.
John Bugaiski has taught 11 years in Kannapolis City Schools since graduating cum laude from the University of New York College of Cortland with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
He has earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and state certification in gifted education from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Bugaiski will now be considered for regional Teacher of the Year honors, which will be announced in February.
Fran Foley, an English as a Second Language teacher at Forest Park Elementary, was named the system's runner-up.
Other candidates were Laura Baker, Fred L. Wilson Elementary; Sara Newell, Kannapolis Middle; Christy Parker, Shady Brook Elementary; Jennifer Van Tighem, Jackson Park Elementary; Katharine Winchell, Woodrow Wilson Elementary; and Nicole Wolcott, A.L. Brown High.
