Central rolls past Vance

The Central Cabarrus softball team routed Vance 12-1 Tuesday in MECA Conference play.
Winning pitcher Mellena Helms struck out 14 in the 4 1/2-inning game. She gave up two hits and an unearned run while walking one.
Helms, Kayla Kindley, Chelsea Hartsell and Lindsey Mullis had two hits. Kindley doubled twice and Hartsell drove in two runs.
