HARRISBURG — The clothing closet at Roberta United Methodist Church is providing those in and around the Harrisburg community with great clothes at no price. The program originated from Harrisburg Crisis Minister's Group, with headquarters in Harrisburg United Methodist, and approached Roberta United Methodist in March with the idea for the clothing closet.

Ken Drury and wife, Bonnie, a couple who has been living in Harrisburg for 25 years, are coordinators of the project, which is quickly growing.

"We started with a big closet and migrated to one-third of the fellowship hall," Drury said. "We're kind of running out of space."

The closet distributes clothing to those in need by referring people to the church and then setting up appointments for them to shop.

The closet features men's, women's, and children's clothing.

Everything is free.

"We only take clothes we would wear," Drury said. "We've been told we have one of the nicest closets anywhere."

The closet primarily serves the Harrisburg community, but they are reaching out to surrounding areas, including Concord and Mount Pleasant.

"Right now, we're just trying to get the word out," Drury said. "Donations have been good, but we haven't had many needy families.

"I know there's a need out there, but we just need to find these people."

The Harrisburg church community has come together to work on this project, assisting in donations, as well as helping sort, fold, and hang clothes during the nights and mornings before the closet is open for appointments.

"We feel like we have something kind of unique," Drury said.

"There's a lot of food pantries but not many clothes closets, and the ones that are out there are limited."

The closet is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Roberta United Methodist Church.

To make an appointment, contact the church before 7 p.m. on Sunday or before the closet opens on Friday.

"We know we've got something good," Drury said. "We invite anybody to come."
