KANNAPOLIS — City Council will consider approving payments to residents near the intersection of Mount Olivet Road at N.C. 3.
The intersection is a popular and busy one, as Mount Olivet Road is cut-through road from Ridge Avenue to N.C. 3. There are no turn lanes or a stoplight at the intersection.
The city is using funds from the N.C. Department of Transportation to pay for part of the $464,000 improvement. The city is on the hook for about $208,000.
The intersection improvements will include pavement widening, curb and guttering, sidewalks, storm drains and sewer upgrades.
City engineers need approval to pay $10,797 to residents near the intersection for taking part of their property through eminent domain.
City Council will also consider a contract with the Kannapolis Intimidators to organize the Kannapolis Christmas Parade. The city, which did pay $10,000 to the Cabarrus Events Association to organize the parade and Village Fest in May, has been looking for other cost-effective options. Smith Family
Baseball, the owners of the Intimidators, offered to organize the parade for free and to donate any profits from the parade to a non-profit organization of the council's choosing.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday at the Kannapolis Train Station, 201 S. Main St., Kannapolis.
