Restaurant employee shot, killed in armed robbery attempt

A gunshot victim was pronounced dead early Saturday after he attempted to stop a robbery at Capriccio Pizza & Italian restaurant in the Brookdale Shopping Center in Harrisburg, according to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department.

The victim was a Hispanic, male employee at Capriccio. His name has not been released.

No suspects have been apprehended for the armed robbery and shooting that occurred on Friday night. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office had received a call on a cell phone that two black males entered the business from the rear, and gunshots were fired during a dispute.

When the Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene, officers learned the suspects had ordered money from the cash register and the two employees' wallets.

The victim tried to stop one of the suspects and was shot.

The suspects fled from the back of the business on foot with an unknown amount of money stolen.

The victim was air lifted to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries and pronounced dead at 12:13 a.m.

Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office is investigating the armed robbery and shooting.

The suspects were said to be two black males in their mid-to-late 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing hooded sweatshirts and carrying an assault type of rifle.
