On Sunday, the Rowan County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigative Division was called to respond to a mobile home at 154 Roy Miller Rd., off St. Matthews Church Road, to investigate a fire.
The Fire Marshall's office and Sheriff's Investigator, David Earnhardt, determined the fire had been set deliberately.
During the investigation, Veronica Nance, the person renting the mobile home, became a suspect, Capt. John Sifford, spokesmen for the Rowan County Sheriff's Department, said in a press release.
Nance has been charged with second-degree arson and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond.
The investigation revealed Nance had plans to leave the state, Sifford said.
