CONCORD - The federal government granted Cabarrus Community Health Center a grant for $337,829.

The grant comes from the Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program, a part of the stimulus package passed earlier this year.

"We are incredibly pleased to see Cabarrus Community Health Centers receive this grant funding," Kissell said. "Community health centers provide a tremendously important service to an underserved part of our communities, those who might not otherwise be able to receive health care. This grant money will continue to help Cabarrus Community Health Center as they serve our community."

The Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program grants are intended to help purchase new equipment or health information technology systems. More than 1,500 health centers were awarded grants under the CIP announcement.

First Lady Michelle Obama announced the release of $851 million in Recovery Act Capital Improvement Programs grants Monday at Unity's Upper Cardozo Health Center in Washington.
