Independence Day weekend will bring out the patriotism in all of us. With fireworks displays, parades and hot dogs, Cabarrus County will celebrate the country's birthday in style.
Here is a listing of events and closings for this weekend:

Garbage pick-up
Concord: On schedule; Monday and Tuesday yard waste collections should be at the curb by 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 7. Wednesday thru Friday collections will be on regular schedule.
Kannapolis: On schedule
Harrisburg: Won't affect garbage pick-up
Mount Pleasant: Won't affect garbage pick
Post office
Most post offices will close at noon on Friday, July 3 and will be closed Saturday, July 4. Mail will not run, but will resume Monday, July 6.

Thursday, July 2
Stars & Stripes Salute with the Charlotte Symphony
What: The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra kicks off the patriotic festivites with an outdoor concert in Kannapolis. Fireworks will follow the performance.
Where/When: Village Park, Kannapolis, 7 p.m.
Price: Free
Details: Parking for outdoor concerts will be available at the outer parking lots along Dale Earnhardt Boulevard with free shuttles to Village Park. The Village Park parking lot will be reserved for handicap parking only (valid handicap placard or license plate required). Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are permitted and concessions will be available. Please no pets, alcohol, grilling or glass bottles.

Miss July 4th Pageant
What: The Miss July 4th Pageant kicks off three days of Independence Day events in Harrisburg. Contestants, ages 1-100, can enter and try for the title of Miss July 4th.
Where: Hickory Ridge High School, 6 p.m.
Price: Each Contestant and one Chaperone, free; adults, $5; children 10–18, $2; children under 10, free
Details: The introductions begin at 6 p.m. with entertainment and questions throughout the evening. Crowning of the queen will be at 9 p.m.

Friday, July 3
Harrisburg July 4th
What: Once again this year, the festivties will be at Harrisburg Park, as the town Parks and Rec Department sponsors Harrisburg July 4th. Music, amusements, the parade up N.C. 49 and, of course, fireworks will happen all weekend in Harrisburg.
Where/When: Harrisburg Park, 4 p.m.
Price: Free admission
Details: The fun begins Friday afternoon with msuic from The Catalinas at 5 p.m. and The Fantastic Shakers at 8 p.m., amusement rides all evening and fireworks at 10 p.m.

Saturday, July 4
Harrisburg July 4th
What: Saturday is the big day at Harrisburg -- Music, amusements, the parade up N.C. 49 and, of course, fireworks will happen all weekend in Harrisburg.
Where/When: Parade begins at 9 a.m., festivities continue at Harrisburg Park all day
Price: Free admission
Details: The Independence Day parade is at 9 a.m. on N.C. 49, beginning at Caldwell Street and ends just past Morehead Road. Park opens at 10:30 a.m., music kicks off with Giannini Brass Band, amusement rides open. At noon, town officials will hold a short ceremony, with a prayer, the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegence, then the mayor will kick off the Pro-Am Invitational Cow Milking Contest. The Battle of the Bands starts at 1 p.m. Da Throwback Band and De'Ja'Vu round out the music schedule for the evening and the fireworks display begins at 10 p.m.

Kannapolis Intimidators vs. Delmarva Shorebirds
What: The Kannapolis Intimidators return to Fieldcrest-Cannon Stadium to kick of a homestand against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Fireworks all
Where/When: Fieldcrest-Cannon Stadium, I-85, Exit 63, Kannapolis, 7:05 p.m.
Price: $8, reserved seat; $6 general admission; senior citizens over 55 & kids ages 4-12 get $1 off the regular ticket price; kids under 4 are free
Details: Coming off a long road trip, and with an overall record of 39-35, the Intimidators return to the Cannon for a week-long homestand that kicks off a four-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Come out and enjoy the Great American Pasttime and stay for the fireworks after the game.

Freedom Celebration
What: First Assembly Church of Concord is hosting a freedom celebration, with music, food and fireworks.
Where/When: First Assembly Church, 150 Warren C. Coleman Blvd., Concord, 4 p.m.
Price: $1
Details: The celebration kicks off at the main campus ballfields off warren C. Coleman Boulevard with the Southern Fried Jazz Band, Micole Wallace Band, promoting their new CD, and the CFA Players. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m.

Details: Every Sunday is Family Fun Night at the Cannon. Kids can enjoy the pre-game Initmidators player autograph session on the main concourse and post-game Kids Run the Bases, for kids 12 and under.
