Nine IRS offices in the North Carolina are scheduled to participate in the agency's nationwide Super Saturday effort on Mar. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"On Super Saturday, the IRS will go the extra mile for taxpayers in need of assistance by offering them added hours of service," said Mark Hanson, IRS Spokesperson for the Carolinas.

IRS employees will be available at participating IRS offices to prepare basic returns for persons whose income was less than $42,000 in 2008. Many of these taxpayers may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

"Taxpayers who may have difficulty visiting the IRS during normal business hours Monday through Friday due to demands in their busy schedules now have a weekend opportunity to get the help they need," Hanson said.

The following IRS offices in the Carolinas will be open on Super Saturday:

Charlotte 10715 David Taylor Dr.
Fayetteville 225 Green St.
Greensboro 320 Federal Place
Hickory 115 Fifth Ave NW
Raleigh 4405 Bland Rd.
Wilmington 3340 Jaeckle Dr.

In addition to free tax return preparation and e-file, the IRS offices also offer the following services:

--Resolving tax issues;
--Answering tax law questions;
--Making account adjustments;
--Accepting payments;
--Establishing payment agreements for those who cannot pay taxes in full;
--Working with people having a hard time paying;
--Providing tax forms and information about e-File, which can save time necessary to receive refunds;

Along with the IRS offices, several Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites throughout the Carolinas are scheduled to participate in Super Saturday.

"Many community organizations have partnered with the IRS to offer free tax preparation and e-file to eligible taxpayers who earned less than $42,000 in 2008," Hanson said.
