Northwest golfers tie for first

The Northwest Cabarrus golf team tied Lake Norman for first place in a North Piedmont Conference match Monday at Irish Creek.
For Northwest, Garrett Ray shot even-par 35, Rhett Alveringa 37 and Brandon Cordell and Luke Vernon 43.
Northwest and Lake Norman shot 158, followed by Statesville, 159; Mooresville, 171; East Rowan and West Rowan, 177; Carson, 180; South Rowan and West Iredell, 182; and North Iredell, 211.
Tyler Crossen led Carson with a 42, and Ben Fesperman paced South Rowan at 43.
