KANNAPOLIS - Dole Food Co. owner David Murdock will be on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" this afternoon, as part of an episode about longevity and nutrition.

The show airs on WSOC-TV at 4 p.m.

Oprah will join Murdock, who founded the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, at the California Health & Longevity Institute, his wellness center in Westlake Village.

And some local faces might be featured as well.

A production crew from "The Oprah Winfrey Show" was in Kannapolis March 1 to shoot interviews with researchers from UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University and Appalachian State University for the episode.

This is not the first time daytime television has put Murdock in the spotlight. Last August, Martha Stewart visited Kannapolis to meet with Murdock and tour the research campus. In November, Murdock appeared on her show and Stewart presented Murdock with an award for his work to promote healthy living.

Murdock and Winfrey are friends. He has, in the past, acknowledged that, and he has even expressed interest in a partnership with Winfrey at the research campus.
