When will we learn to increase our spiritual strength in a materialistic world? We heard from some publishers yelling from the top of the mountain that society should not make any demands about what they publish. They hide behind the charge, "censorship," and that they are protected by the constitution.
Even though we have many, many good people all around us, we have a few that have lost their way in life. Would you believe that there are still people that are afraid to allow other people to mention the name of God? They are the ones that are trying to keep God fearing people the opportunity to practice their belief. The do not want anyone to praise, honor, or pray to God. This is a national sickness.
We are a sick nation spiritually, and do not let anybody fool you about the matter. The Devil will always find some excuse and "proof' for his actions. This is about as stupid as a rat being the guest speaker for the annual National Cat Convention.
We submit that we all are a little more materialistic than we realize. We also submit that the more we get, th more we want. Because of the fact that we defined successful as ownership of the materials, some people will stop at nothing to gain more. Now, this is where our problems begin, and our morals take a dive.
We are living in a very grand time, and yet an awful time. We are suffering from confusion, uneasiness, and unrest. Our crime rate is growing faster than the population. We are blessed with so many wonderful things, such as homes, credit cards, jobs, families and friends. Never has a people received so much and yet given so little.
Never has a nation been so blessed, and yet so arrogant. Never has a land been so favored by God, and then so completely unmindful of the One from whom all blessings flow.
The time has come for us to pray the brief but meaningful prayer of George Herbert, the English poet: "Thou has given so much to me. Give me one thing more-a thankful heart."
The time is upon us when we must make a spiritual statement in the same manner that we make a financial statement. We must re-examine our morals, goals, and purpose in life.
Freedom departs when we are no longer worthy of possessing it. Every person must have a concern for self and feel a responsibility for discovering his or her mission in life. With the many moral problems that are coming into our lives each day, we must be on our very best thinking ship. When a person sells principles for popularity and money, he or she is soon bankrupt.
It is always better to live richly than to die rich. We are not kicking wealth, for we all would like to be rich and slim. In the meantime, let us not sacrifice our better thinkings and toss away our principles.
If you will live right each day, you will be neither afraid of tomorrow or ashamed of yesterday. Be careful about the things that you plant, for you must give an account of your planting at harvest time.
Keep in mind that an upright person can never be a downright failure. It is also time for us to tell our children that there is a vicious beast lurking about that will destroy them if they give into him.
Our big problem in our free nation is that so many people who stand up for their rights fall down miserable on their duties and responsibilities. Let us hope and pray for the day when we can get our lives in proper order, and make it safe by day and night for our children's children. We agree with Proverbs, the true measure of man is the height of his ideals, the breadth of his sympathy, the depths of his convictions, and the length of his patience.
The good Lord has been good to us as a nation and individuals. Let us not betray him with our foolishness. Happy is the person who renounces everything that places a strain on his or her conscience.
