Farmer, billionaire, philanthropist, blogger?

Dole Food Company owner David Murdock posted a blog on "The Huffington Post" today, touting the world's healthiest fruits and vegetables and how he plans on living to 125 years old.

In the post, he talks about his recent visit from Oprah Winfrey and his secret to longevity.

"She visited me at my farm to learn how, at 86, I am enjoying the robust health, energy, and mental creativity of someone many decades younger," Murdock wrote. "My secret: large quantities of fruit and vegetables, plus an hour of daily exercise."

He also touts the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis and how it is, in Murdock's words, " ... the only campus in the world encompassing eight universities all working together for the benefit of health and longevity."

Murdock appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show recently as part of an episode about healthy living. Oprah visited Murdock as his home in Westlake, Calif., where he took her on a bike ride and a shopping trip to Costco.

Murdock is major supporter of Republican candidates, including former President George W. Bush. The Huffington Post is a liberal-leaning Web site.

But Murdock said in the blog that he is friends with blog founder Arianna Huffington (he is a godfather to one of her daughters), and "while Arianna and I do not agree on all issues, we both believe in the importance of proper nutrition."
