CONCORD - Cabarrus Health Alliance has received its first shipment of H1N1 vaccine from the NC Department of Public Health. The temperature-controlled vaccine is called FluMist and the health alliance has 1,000 doses.
CHA has not scheduled any mass clinics at this time. The H1N1 vaccine has been provided to some private providers. Some pharmacies will also be receiving vaccine. Additional H1N1 vaccine is expected next week, and in coming weeks.
The focus will be on priority target populations as determined by CDC:
- Pregnant women
- Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age
- Health care and emergency medical services personnel
- All people from 6 months through 24 years of age,
- Children from 6 months through 18 years of age,
- Young adults 19 through 24 years of age,
- Persons ages 25 through 64 years of age that have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza
The seasonal flu vaccine is also available, and the health alliance urges the public to get a flu shot.
It is important to remember these additional hygiene measures to prevent the spread of influenza:
- Stay home if you are sick
- Cover your cough
- Wash your hands
