What life and professional experiences do you feel will help you, if elected?
Born in and lifelong resident of Cabarrus County, served 3 years on Mount Pleasant Planning & Zoning Board, Community Plan Steering Committee and was appointed to the Town Board of Commissioners in May 2009. Am a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Lions Club and DAV Chapter 27.

What are the three biggest issues facing your constituency and your community?
We have three major ongoing capital projects – the Hwy. 49 sewer extension project, street and sidewalk projects along Washington Street and from Mount Pleasant Elementary School along North Drive to the middle school at N. Main Street. Also, the Hwy. 73 resurfacing and repair project. This will include repairing or replacing sidewalks, storm water and utilities along Franklin Street in Mount Pleasant's downtown. We need to plan ahead for upgrading, repairs and replacing our aging water and sewer lines in town.

What specifically would you do to spur economic development and bring jobs, if elected?
We need and industrial and business park to attract new business and industry. Natural gas service is needed in Mount Pleasant and eastern Cabarrus County. We need new home and business to bring in revenue to the town.

What is your vision for the community that would shape your decisions, if elected?
We need to plan ahead for developing land along Hwy. 49 and Hwy. 73. Widening of Hwy. 49 to four lanes will increase traffic in the area. Hwy. 49 is a direct route between Charlotte and the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area. I, along with a lot of the local residents in Mount Pleasant would like to see the town retain its small town atmosphere but we also must grow. We cannot remain financially stable unless we have an increase in revenue. We want to keep taxes, water and sewer rates where they are. In addition to keeping our taxes and water rates down, I would like to improve the town's cleanliness. We have a hometown feel that I hope will cause travelers to stop in, shop and visit. We have a wonderful library that has plans for expansion, the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Museum and our new Cabarrus County Senior Center. Just recently, Cabarrus Links public transportation has started serving Mount Pleasant. I want to manage the town as efficiently as possible so that unnecessary spending is eliminated.

Do you have any hobbies?
My family, wife Sheila, children LeAnne Weast (Toby), Lori Johnson (Ben) Randall, and twins Alex and Isaac. Grandchildren Madison and Mallory Weast and Tyler and Chloe Johnson. My church, Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Lions Club and serving the community.

What is the last book you have read?
I'm currently reading Game Plan for Life by Joe Gibbs.
