KANNAPOLIS - The North Carolina Society of Historian has awarded its Willie Parker Prize to City of Kannapolis for its history book, "Kannapolis: A Pictorial History."

The award recognizes the work for its excellence in the publication of a history of a North Carolina county, institution or individual. The North Carolina Society of Historians was formed in 1941 for the purpose of collecting and preserving N.C. history, traditions, artifacts, genealogies and folklore throughout North Carolina. They present annual awards in categories including multimedia, newsletters, newspaper articles and books.

Fewer than 200 copies remain of the second printing of the book. Those interested in purchasing a copy can contact Barbara Yow at 704-920-4300 or byow@cityofkannapolis.com. Proceeds from the book sales will go towards local historical preservation projects.
