Horizon Bay Retirement Living, a national senior housing operator based in Tampa, Fla., announced that it has signed agreements to lease and manage eight more retirement communities from HCP, Inc. who acquire, develop, lease, sell and manage healthcare real estate, and provides mortgages and other financing to healthcare providers.

One of those communities is here in Concord.

EdenGardens of Concord, previously run by Sunrise Senior Living is one of the eight included in the agreement.
The agreement went into effect on October 1.

The facility will now be known as Horizon Bay Assisted Living, but will not go through any major changes except for the name change, explained Chip Dennis, Director of First Impressions in Concord.

"We are being updated. We will be receiving a new van, the dining room will be updated, and there will be some touch up painting. Nothing major though," Dennis said.

"We are excited to expand our diverse portfolio of retirement communities," said Thilo Best, Chairman & CEO of Horizon Bay Retirement Living. "I have every confidence that our team will deliver superior service to the residents in these communities. We look forward to continued growth with HCP and expect to achieve solid financial results with the portfolio."

Horizon Bay will manage over 15,000 units with 88 communities in 18 states across the country. This marks Horizon Bay's entrance into three new states, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina.

"At this time, the major changes to the (Concord) community will mostly be to the community's programs and services," Jay Wilke, Senior Corporate Communications Specialist for Horizon Bay Retirement Living, said.

Dennis doesn't expect the in house management to change, and she isn't aware of any new goals for the facility set by Horizon Bay, and Wilke agrees.

"As of right now, there will be no major changes in day-to-day operations. More than likely, all major changes will be gradual," Wilke said. "We will be incorporating Horizon Bay's signature services into the community, most notably our LiveWell! Lifestyle Programs & Events. LiveWell! Lifestyle Programs & Events are designed to provide social, fitness and recreational opportunities that have a positive impact on the well-being of our residents. LiveWell! Encompasses the six dimensions of wellness: physical, intellectual, emotional, social, vocational and spiritual. "

The mission of Horizon Bay, explained Wilke, is in a society that tends to label older adults as one demographic group, Horizon Bay wishes to stand apart by focusing on the individual.

"We understand that true living starts from within. Inspired by the notion of revering and respecting our elders, Horizon Bay embraces an approach to life that creates more meaning, inspiration and fulfillment. We want to shatter stereotypes, and honor people individually for who they are and the unique lives they've led," Wilke said.
