The City of Concord Department Fire and Safety would like to remind residents as Sunday approaches to change the batteries in your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector.
Communities nationwide witness tragic home fire deaths each year.
An average of three children per day die in home fires and 80 percent of those occur in homes without working smoke alarms.
Nonworking smoke alarms rob residents of the protective benefits home fire safety devices were designed to provide.
The most commonly cited causes of nonworking smoke alarms are worn or missing batteries.
Changing your batteries at least twice a year is the simplest, most effective way to reduce these tragic deaths and injuries.
In fact, a working smoke alarm nearly cuts half the risk of dying in a home fire.
Additionally, the International Association of Fire Chiefs recommends replacing your smoke alarms, every ten years.
Concord Department of Fire and Life Safety can assist you with replacing your smoke alarm if needed.
Remember that time falls back one hour this Sunday morning.
