UPDATED 8:35 a.m.: Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office confirms a high-speed chase through two counties early Monday morning, and the arrest of the driver and passenger.

At around 2:45 a.m. a deputy noticed a suspicious van in a parking lot on Highway 24-27 in Cabarrus County.

When the officer pulled in to check on the suspicious van it took off and the deputies began pursuit.

The chase continued down Albemarle and Harrisburg roads entering Charlotte then crossing back into Cabarrus County.

North Carolina Highway Patrol joined the pursuit on Rocky River Road.

Speed during the chase was reported to reach over 70 miles an hour.

According to the same report the passenger began to throw items out the window including a stereo.

The Highway Patrol, and officers with the Concord Police Department used stop sticks to bust the van's tires on Old Charlotte Road at Highway 49.

The troopers were then able to stop the vehicle, and reports indicate the driver surrendered immediately, but the passenger resisted the officers and had to be tasered.

Officers have not yet released the names of the suspects, but reports suggest the men may face a number of charges, including resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding officers, DWI and littering.
