Football registration ending
The Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County will continue football program registration through July 30 from 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
All first-year players will be drafted onto teams during the week of Aug. 2-4.
Registration is open to children 6-12 years old (Aug. 31 cut-off date). The fee is $90, or $70 with free/reduced lunch, or $50 with Medicaid. Documentation is required at time of registration.
All children are guaranteed playing time. All players must submit a copy of his/her birth certificate at time of registration. All players must have proof of a physical exam to receive equipment, but not at the time of registration.
Cheerleading registration runs Aug. 2-6 from 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. It is open to girls ages 6-12 years old (Aug. 31 cut-off date). The fee is $50, or $40 with free/reduced lunch, or $30 with Medicaid (includes cost of trophy), plus cost of uniform (up to $35).
After School Program registration begins Aug. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and continues throughout the school year. Transportation is to be provided from most Cabarrus County elementary and middle schools. School Closing Day Program is also available.

Running event set for Saturday
The Appalachian State University Human Performance Laboratory 5K run/walk and 1 mile fun run will begin near the steps of the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory building in Kannapolis on Saturday morning, July 31 at 8 a.m.
Race-day registration and packet pick-up will begin at 7 a.m. The fun run begins immediately following the start of the 5K race.
The certified course runs through the Kannapolis Greenway, Village Park and part of Cannon Village to the finish line near the Core Laboratory. The course map can be found online at active.com under the Mountaineer 5K.
Cash prizes will be awarded to first-place finishers in each age group and gender division.
All early- and race-week registration participants will receive an event t-shirt and gift bag. Participants can register online by July 30 at www.active.com.

Youth soccer camp slated
Youth soccer camp at Hickory Ridge High School is to be held Aug. 9-13.
Boys and girls ages 5-7 attend from 8:30-10 a.m., while ages 8-12 attend from 10:30 a.m. to noon each day. Cost is $70. Campers will practice technical skills and play small-sided games each day. E-mail Scott Wolfe for details at scott.wolfe@cabarrus.k12.nc.us.

NW practice begins Aug. 2
The first day of practice for Northwest Cabarrus High School cross country is Monday, Aug. 2. Practice starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 7:45, said coach Keith Rhoney. Meet at the school tennis courts. If more information is needed, call 704-932-1780.

Mount Pleasant football info
Mount Pleasant High School football practice is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 2 at 8 a.m, coach Mike Johns said.
A mandatory parent meeting is scheduled for Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
