Adam Little was an avid cyclist who was known as a team player.
"He did whatever needed to be done to help the team win," said Darren Fuller, Little's boss at Contractors Flooring and fellow cyclist, "He was always willing to sacrifice his results for others to get the glory."
Little, 35, died after Stacy Renee Shaw, 24, struck him while driving her 1995 Nissan on N.C. 49 near U.S. 601 Wednesday morning. He was riding his bicycle to work.
Concord Police charged Shaw with misdemeanor death by vehicle and also cited her with a child restraint violation. No one else was injured in the incident.
Little was the Carolinas manager for the Subaru Gary Fisher Road Team and had been cycling seriously for about five years, Fuller said.
"He just moved up into the elite category of racing," Fuller said. "It's so disappointing that he didn't get a chance to continue."
Little was born in Stanly County and lived in Mount Pleasant. He taught biology at Mount Pleasant High School for 10 years before he started working for Fuller.
"I hired him to do scheduling, and he ended up being a jack-of-all-trades," Fuller said.
Little was also a people person, someone that could talk to anyone. He often would make jokes at his own expense to make others around him feel comfortable, Fuller said.
"He was one in a million," Fuller said.
Fuller said he had been cycling for about 25 years. He said he logs between 8,000 and 9,000 miles a year on his bike.
"I've never had any incidents with cars, but you know it can happen anytime, anywhere," Fuller said. "We're wondering, 'Why him? Why now?' We're all trying to figure it out."
Little had such an impact on people not just in the cycling community, but in general, Fuller said.
"The enormous amount of people calling, giving condolences, we've seen such an outpouring of support for his kids," Fuller said.
Little is survived by his wife, Melissa, two daughters, Aidan and Wesley, his parents, Richard Eldred Little of Gastonia and Gloria Culp Carson of Concord, and brother, David Little of New York.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
