Florida-based Connextions, Inc. announced the addition of about 1,200 jobs to the Charlotte market, including an estimated 400 in Concord, company officials announced Thursday.
Recruitment for some of those positions will begin immediately. The customer-service company said in a statement that it planned to hold a job fair in July to help recruit additional candidates.
“Connextions is excited to be expanding our business in North Carolina, where we have already had great success driven by an exceptional workforce,” said Connextions president Steven Auerbach, in a statement.
For Cabarrus job seekers, the announcement is the latest a recent string of good news as the country continues to work through the worst recession since the Great Depression.
Last month, Celgard, a company that makes film separators for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, announced plans to invest more money and jobs in the local community as it prepares to open a 150,000-square-foot manufacturing facility by the end of the year. In total, Celgard anticipates investing $122 million locally and creating more than 200 jobs.
Cabarrus County reported a 10.3 percent unemployment rate in February, North Carolina Employment Security Commission numbers show. In March, statewide unemployment fell to 9.7 percent. County-by-county numbers for March are expected next week.
With the addition of 400 jobs, Connextions will more than double its Concord workforce since opening, according to John Cox, president and CEO of Cabarrus Economic Development Corporation.
“Connextions came to Cabarrus County about four years ago with about 400 seats,” he said. “[With this announcement], they have grown to about 1,000 seats.”
Cox credits the local influx of jobs to a partnership between the Cabarrus EDC and the economic development arm of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
The two entities also worked together to keep Celgard in the community when it announced its original plans for expansion last year.
