Unemployment in Cabarrus and Rowan counties dropped in September, along with 90 other counties statewide.
The state Employment Security Commission reported Friday that Cabarrus had an unemployment rate of 9.7 percent, down from 10.4 percent in August.
Rowan County's rate dropped from 11.8 percent in August to 11.1 percent in September.
The unemployment rate in the Charlotte metro region was at 10.7 percent in September, a decrease from the summer.
The state's unadjusted unemployment rate was 10 percent. Forty-five counties were at or below that rate.
“The September data demonstrate a decrease in the unemployment rate for most of North Carolina’s counties,” said ESC chairman Lynn R. Holmes, in a statement. “However, many counties still face high unemployment rates. This agency continues to focus on helping our customers find work and get the assistance they need.”
