Media General has named Lee Buchanan editor of the Independent Tribune.
Buchanan, a veteran journalist, was most recently multimedia content coordinator for the Media General newspaper group that includes the Tribune.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Tribune newsroom,” Buchanan said. “The Independent Tribune has a very talented and experienced editorial staff. It’s a terrific foundation to build on.
“Our readers can expect a renewed sense of urgency and a tight focus on local news and the issues that matter in Cabarrus County,” he said.
Buchanan has headed up the editorial operations at a variety of publications, including daily newspapers and monthly magazines. His focus in recent years has been on digital journalism, delivering the information and perspective that readers need through websites, mobile platforms and social media.
“We are pleased to have Lee join our team at the Independent Tribune,” said Jon Dunham, Tribune publisher. “I believe he is a great fit for the editor position as he brings experience as an editor and an understanding of local content for our readers.
“Lee also brings a wealth of knowledge on the digital side of our business by upgrading our website, enhancing our delivery of breaking news and communicating with readers through social media.”
Buchanan replaces Jonathan Coleman, who left the company in January.
