A Concord woman was being held without bond at the Cabarrus County Jail on Tuesday after a fight left another woman dead from a knife wound to her neck, officials said.
Dakota Lynn Castner, 22, of 7065 Untz Road, Concord, was charged with murder in connection with the death of Kadi Ann Paden, 19, of 7067 Untz Road, Concord.
Cabarrus County Sheriff Brad Riley said the two knew other, but declined to say how long they had known each other. He also declined to comment on the nature of the argument that led to the assault. He did say detectives found the murder weapon.
The investigation began about 8:54 p.m. Monday after the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a fight between two women at 7067 Untz Road, Concord, according to a press release. The caller said one woman had possibly suffered a knife laceration to the throat.
When deputies arrived on the scene, with the Odell First Responders and Cabarrus County EMS, they found Paden lying in the backyard, according to the press release. She had a severe knife wound to the neck and died at the scene, officials said.
A suspect had run from the scene on foot, and deputies spent several hours combing the area. A suspect was found in a large wooded area behind the scene on Untz Road.
Detectives later learned the argument started on the street in front of the home at 7067 Untz Road, and after Paden was cut she ran from the street and fell in the backyard of her home.
